Tauranga, New Zealand

The South Pacific Bible College is located in Tauranga, New Zealand. Tauranga (meaning "safe anchorage" in the Maori language) is on the north-east coast of the North Island and is known for its fabulous beaches, surf, and picturesque settings. Having one of the highest annual duration of bright sunshine (2,320 hours), medium temperatures and a good rainfall, it has become well known for its farming, horticulture, and forestry.

The Bay of Plenty was named by Captain Cook in late 1769 after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Maori villages he visited on the coast. Today the population of the Bay of Plenty is around 260,000 with 110,000 in Tauranga city and district. Being one of the fastest growing districts in New Zealand, it is fitting that the College is located in Tauranga, a 2½ hour drive from Auckland where one quarter (over one million) of New Zealand's population live

South Pacific Bible CollegeDuring the early 1970's, thoughts, ideas and plans were being formulated for the establishment of a Bible College in New Zealand, incorporating a two year study programme with a one year extension programme for those who desired to go into full-time church work.

The College opened in January 1982 through the generosity of the Otumoetai Church of Christ, the Lakewood Church of Christ, (Denver, Colorado) and other supporting churches and individuals.

Since the first day when seven full-time students enrolled, the College has expanded its facilities and also its influence by training men and women from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan, China, Pakistan, South Africa and the United States of America. The cross-cultural environment enables students to understand different customs, beliefs and social values.

Classes are held on site at 201 Otumoetai Rd. Included within the complex are administrative offices, lecture rooms, computer labs, a book and video library, study areas, student kitchen/dining and recreation lounge.
