More About West Houston Youth
Is there financial assistance available for these events?

Yes, though the amount of funds that we have is limited. We try to make sure that money is not a reason that someone is missing out on an opportunity that God may be calling them to. We may work out a payment plan or some other alternative to provide a way for that student to attend an event. This is done on a case by case basis.

Please contact the youth ministry office for more information concerning financial assistance.

Why does The WHYG do the things it does?

You may be wondering why does the youth ministry go on a mission trip, attend so many summer camps or even play paintball together. We do these things because we believe that these events and programs provide a great stage for God to use His followers to serve the needs of our neighbors.

Through these events we truly hope that people become deep seekers of God, people who show the love of Jesus, people who share Jesus and workers who serve God in very personal ways. We believe that by joining God in His transforming work we live out His greatest commands of : loving Him and loving others, and we live out His great commission: making disciples. May God be with us as we are always looking for ways to do this better.

How does a student get involved in the youth ministry?

We recognize that becoming part of a new group often leaves people feeling intimidated. Sometimes taking that first step into a room of strangers makes us feel nervous and awkward. We've all been there and felt that.

The WHYG wants students to feel welcomed and invited into our community. We feel that showing this kind of love to people is what Jesus has called us to. Forming and growing deep friendships of trust and care is vital as we walk with Christ.

Yahweh Café is the place to get your first taste of what the WHYG is about. When you come, expect to be greeted by students and youth ministers who truly want to get to know you. This large group gathering will help you see who we are without feeling like you're sticking out like a sore thumb.

After attending Yahweh Cafe for several weeks you will be encouraged to check out Communities. During this program students spend time in small groups (divided by grade and gender). This is where you will really get to know other students well. These groups are designed to provide a close community of students challenging and inspiring each other in their journey with Christ. Often the small groups have get-togethers outside of the regular meeting time which grows friendships even more.

As you have probably noticed, the WHYG offers many activities outside our weekly meeting times. Many of these activities are great for getting to know other students and the youth ministers.
